DeeOGee

Our little buddy went to heaven a few days ago, it was a sad day.
He lived a good long Doggy life and was the best little dog we could have asked for.
He was blind for the last few years of his life but I'm sure he is running around in the clouds now :)

Trick or something Healthy ?...

Here is my Halloween themed painting I'll be putting in the gallery at Nelvana this week :)
& some of the reference/texture material I used to create it. See if you can find all the textures in the painting:)

The story behind the painting I was thinking was the three monsters decide to go trick or treating for the first time after they try some candy for the first time and love it. They are not impressed when they receive the fruit at first, but maybe that becomes their candy of choice ?
I don't really have time to do a background for it at the moment but maybe in the future :)

Thanks to my pal Dean Outschoorn who helped me come up with the apple idea.
Happy Halloween ! & don't forget to have those apples ready...I mean candy!

Ottawa Animation Festival 2012

Genndy Tartakovsky Q&A post Hotel Transylvania
Genndy Tartakovsky Masterclass

Butch Hartman Keynote speaker
Brendan Burch
So I am back home after taking in a little of the Animation Festival this year. It was great to see familiar faces as well as meet new ones.
I attended the TAC portion of the festival for the first time, it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested.
One of the highlights was the  Genndy Tartakovsky "masterclass". I have always enjoyed his work and it was great to finally see and hear from him in person. Prior to the festival I didn't know who he was, I new his work of course Dexters Lab, Samurai Jack and more, ...but I now know the name.
He offered words of wisdom something along the lines of "with your work have a strong vision, Believe (in that vision), and continue to grow and develop as an artist."

here are a couple of links to a few artists I was able to meet:

Happy Valentines Day! My wife and I recently traveled to Costa Rica (which was amazing), so while on the beach one day, I drew us together on a surfboard in the sand.

just a couple of quick drawings from the skecthbook, the Rio drawings are from the talk with Carlos Sandanah, from some of the slides he had as part of his presentation.

Mr.Steve Jobs

I don't normally post outside material, but this was too inspirational not to. It's audio clips from Steve Jobs' Stanford commencement speech, put to music and images. I think I am going to have to read his book...

Guapo the Iguana

This is a traditionally animated piece I did for fun. This lazy iguana loves his maple syrup.

The Salesman in all of us.

As I was working on this, I thought maybe there is a little bit of evil saleman in all of us ? Some people listen more to their evil salesman then others. I know things aren't always that easy, but personally, I tend to like those who choose to be a little more honest, generous, and less self indulged... don't you? so be strong, and don't listen to this guy!

NY Central Park

This past summer my wife and I traveled to New York City for a mini vacation. These are some of my sketches from touring Central Park. It was a beautiful summer day.
a jazz band playing in Central Park... you'd have to agree It's kinda nice drawing to music.
these drawings were done just outside the central park south entrance in the morning.
I spent more time watching then drawing at this spot. The New York city rollerskating club, there were some awesome characters here, swayn', jivn' & groovn' to there music.
Outside of the Boathouse restaurant this man played his harmonica. He had a couple of requests from this lady. It was pretty cute actually, she sang to a couple of songs while he played.
Central Park has quite a few baseball diamonds... I've never drawn baseball players in action before...

Tim Burton Inspiration

So I was fortunate to get to check out the Tim Burton exhibit here in Toronto yesterday. It was amazing to see his early creations and his concept art from Black Cauldron... none of which was used in the final film.
One thing I took away from the experience was the number of different mediums Burton uses to express his creativity from poetry, to sculpting to varieties of pencils and paints... I guess that's what an artist does... creation & experimentation.
I recommend the exhibit to anyone.
Anyway after viewing his collection of works I had to get a pen and create something. so post exhibit we went across the street for a few drinks, while waiting for Batman Returns to start... here are a couple of sketches on some good ole fashioned restaurant napkins, with a little added color.
